Another Jain temple located in Lakshmeshwara is the Ananthanatha Basadi. This temple is situated in the center of Lakshmeshwara town in the Gadag district of Karnataka. It was constructed in the year 1250 CE and stands as an example of Chalukyan-style architecture. In the sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha) of the temple, an idol of Ananthanatha, one of the 24 Tirthankaras, is installed.
The 1008 Ananthanatha Tirthankara Digambar Jain Basadi in Lakshmeshwara is located 385 kilometers from Bengaluru and 46 kilometers from Gadag. It is only 650 meters from Lakshmeshwara and 13 kilometers from the Gudageri railway station.
This ancient monument in Lakshmeshwara dates back to the time of the Kalyana Chalukyas. Later, during the Vijayanagara dynasty, the temple was expanded. The temple follows the Trikuta architectural layout. It houses idols of Jain Tirthankaras in four sanctums, with inscriptions written beneath the idols. This Basadi is now under the protection of the State Government as an ancient monument.
