Japadabavi is a historical step well located in the town of Dumbal in Gadag district. The entrance of this well is in the eastern direction. It is about 22 m long and 10 m wide.
Japadabavi is 411.8 km from Bangalore and 22.7 km from Gadag city.
Japadabavi is a merger of two words- Japa + Bavi. Japa means chanting God’s name and Bavi means well. This well is unique, so is its name. The well derives its name from the fact that it was designed to allow bathing in the well and performing rituals within the walls of the well.
Next to this well is the Siddeshwar temple. The temple dates back to the Chalukya period, while the temple door and walls are recent, made of stone and mud.
