Chandramouleshwar Temple is a Hindu temple located in Araseikere in Hassan district of Karnataka state. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is called Chandramouleshwara Temple. The temple dates back to the early 13th century and is one of the many Hindu temple complexes in Araseikere, the Chandramauleshwara temple.
This temple is about 183 km from Bangalore. It is about 40 km from Hassan city and 41 km from Hassan railway station.
Chandramouleshwar Temple is open from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Sculpture
The Ishwara temple is built using soapstone. The temple roof has a circular plan, a 16-pointed star-shaped domed mandapam, and a five-storied vimana tower. Built in the most striking early Hoysala architectural style with a constellation of artworks depicting Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakti and Vedic legends.
Architecture
The architecture of the temple is one of the most remarkable positional temples of the Hoysala period. It has an open navaranga and mukha-mantapa, surmounted by a round dome. This open pavilion is supported on 21 pillars, 8 of which are decorated in the middle. But the outer 13 pillars have pairs of elephants near their bases. There is a square outer porch, an open mandapa hall. A deeply concentric architecture with an inverted lotus is in the most striking position. Inside is another covered secret hall. The gudha mandapa is 20 feet by 20 feet square, the roof of the mandapa is supported by four lathe turned pillars.
The temple has several carved inscription stones, as well as hero stones. The temple was built around 1220 CE during the reign of Narasimha II of the Hoysala dynasty. And also, the Shivlinga inside this temple is indicated as Kattameshwara. Temples Temples were not a problem until the beginning of the 14th century, as evidenced by inscriptions. We can see mutilated figures of Durga, Ganesha, Mahisasuramardini and many others and scattered sections of “some temples that no longer exist”.
