Mudagal Fort

Mudgal Fort is located in Lingasugur Taluk, Raichur District, Karnataka State. The fort bears witness to the rich historical and cultural tapestry of Karnataka and India, offering a glimpse of the region’s past through its enduring architectural, cultural and historical significance.

Mudgal Fort is 430.2 km from Bangalore, 114.0 km from Raichur city and 10 km from Lingasoogur.

The outer fort of Mudgal covers an area of half a square mile. The fort has a wide moat (Agaltu) filled with water around it for protection. The trench is 50 yards wide at several places. Behind the moat is a series of narrow enclosures. At several places there are Hindu style structures while the arch-shaped bank has a Muslim design. A row of ditches and pits provide a pleasing sight.

The Fateh Darwaza faces north, in front, thus forming a barbican for the defense of the fort, screened on each side, with a very large bastion. Near this barbican is the staff room with three arched cracks towards the north. Barbican Pillar and Gates built in a similar style has a narrow court with entrances towards the west and northeast. This gateway contains both guards’ rooms in the carriage. A Kannada inscription near the muzzle on the huge bastion mentions that it has a gun. Gun bracelets are made outwardly with long iron pieces on the inside.
