History
The idol of Goddess Mahalakshmi at Kallur is Swayambhu or Swayambhoo. Legend has it that the temple’s old priest, Lakshmikanth Acharya, designed the idol while rubbing sandalwood sticks on a sankal (black stone) to extract sandalwood paste as a daily ritual.
