Panchakuta Basadi Kambadahalli

Panchakuta Basadi Kambadahalli is a holy pilgrimage site for Jains in Nagamangala taluk of Tumkur district in the state of Karnataka. Kambadahalli is an ancient Jain places, home to the Panchakoota Basadi of Jains. The name of this village is due to the 50 feet high pillar of Lord Brahma near Panchkoota Basadi here.

Panchakuta Basadi Kambadahalli is 128 km from Bangalore and 60 km from Mandya and 17 km from Nagamangala.

Kambadahalli was a town in Gangavadi district. Later it came under the rule of Hoysala and Vijayanagar kings. The Panchkoota Basadi of this village is a unique Jain monument. Around 900 AD, Adinath Basadi, Trikutachala, was built during the reign of Ganga. Built in granite, this basadi is in Dravidian style. During the Hoysala period, two more shrines were added to this Trikuta temple and it was transformed into a Panchakuta temple. The original temple has three garbhagrihas of the same area.

Among these, the central shrine faces north. In front of it, there are two shrines facing each other in east and west. All the shrines have one separate Ardha Mantapa. Opening to the navaranga, there are four pillars in the navaranga and a porch in front of the navaranga. The two later added shrines were built perpendicular to the original shrine in front from east to west. Both the temples have one half hall and one navaranga.

An open mandapa next to the navarangas houses these two shrines. To the north of the temple is the Dwara Mandal. The idols of Adinath, Neminath in the east and Shantinath in the west are enshrined in the south sanctum sanctorum of the original temple. All sculptures have elaborate pedestals. In Basadi there are sculptures of Yaksha Yakshinis from Ganga Hoysala period. The next two sanctum sanctorums of the Hoysala period have one Jaina Bimba each. The exterior decoration of the basadi is entirely Dravidian in style.
