Balamuri Falls is a small waterfall located in Mandya district of Karnataka state and close to Srirangapatna, Mysore. It is a man-made check dam on the Cauvery water body, built in an attempt to hold back the waters of the Cauvery River. It was built mainly to help irrigate the fields around the river and to control the river water.
Balamuri Falls is about 144 km from Bangalore and 17 km from Mysore. It is 44 km from Mandya city and about 14 km from Sri Rangapatnam.
After the Kaveri river is full, it plunges 06 feet to become a small waterfall, allowing visitors to see it. Coconut trees and different types of trees adorn the shores and the waterfall with its glistening water in the sun is a sight to behold, making it a serene place for natural beauty and a touch of spirituality on the outskirts of Mysore, as well as a very suitable place for a vacation.
The name Balmuri is bala meaning right, muri meaning turn within proper Kannada means ‘curving to the right’, referring to the way the water flow takes place at this place in Srirangapatna. The time to visit this waterfall is from 6.00 AM – 7.00 PM.
The length of the check dam on Cauvery water falls is about 1.6 km wide and creates a beautiful waterfall of water. The watercourse near Balamuri Falls is a delight to watch with its smooth flow.
Both Balmuri and Edmuri waterfalls are adorned with temples dedicated to Ganesha. Due to the popularity of the area in the film, several song sequences have been shot here, adding to its appeal.
