Shishunala Sharief Saheb Memorial is located in Shishunala Hala village, Shiggamvi taluk of Haveri district of Karnataka state. Shishunala Sharif is the master of Kannada literary philosophy. Shishunala Sharif is a well-known anubhavavarakavya who wrote a tone of anubhavakavya. Sharif is a holy place where God devotees, saints, sages, poets, social reformers, intellectuals have a motherly heart, compassion, alliance and love.
Shishunala Sharief Saheb Memorial is about 383 km from Bangalore and 46 km from Hubli. And it is 51 km away from Haveri city. And it is 6 km away from Gudjeri railway station.
Born on 7th March 1819 in village of Shishuva Hala, Shiggamvi taluk of Haveri district. His father was Hazrat Saheb, an Imam from Devkara family, and his mother was Hajjuma. His full name is Muhammad Sharif. Education Shishunala village. After passing the Mulki examination, Sharif worked as a teacher in primary schools for some time.
At this time Shishunala Sharief Saheb was blessed by Kalasada Guru Govindabhatta. Sharif’s parents got him married to a girl named Fatima from the family of Kundagola Nayaka, as the son left work and got involved in mysticism. Later a daughter was born to them. The baby girl did not live long. Worried about that child, Fatima also died of illness.
Although Sharif was bored in life, Sharif thereafter devoted his life to spiritual pursuits. He patiently spent time in the company of gentlemen and scholars. He wandered around the village looking for a guru who could guide him properly and got the right guidance in a guru named Govindabhatta. This guru, who was not superstitious about any sect, was greatly appreciated by Sharif. Both the gurus went to mosques and temples for interviews. Sharif composed and sang many songs. Along with these Gurus, Nagalingamati of Navlagunda and Madivalappa of Garaga and Siddharudh Swami of Hubli also had a great impact on Sharif. He made himself a disciple and gave him gurudesh. Guru Govindabhatta conveyed the essence of the Upanishads to Sharif.
The words sung by Shishunala Sharief Saheb are in the dialect style of Dharwad district. Some of these words are theological words, while others are philosophical words. Although most of the words are in Kannada, some words are in Urdu.
In the daily life of the village boy, he has made a metaphor of every situation-thing, object-person, animal-bird etc. that caught his attention and has colorfully expressed his experience in them.
Sharif wrote throughout his life the song “Bodha Ondhe, Brahmanada Ondhe (ಬೋಧ ಒಂದೇ, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಾದ ಒಂದೇ)” was his seed mantra, which was the Brahma Tattva of Sanatan Vedic faith, the Linga Tattva of Veerashaivaism which was influential in his environment and the Samadhi Tattva of Hulagura Khadarsha Sadhu who was revered by his family.
Shishunala Sharief Saheb rose to the limelight in North Karnataka as a shining icon of interfaith harmony and a symbol of Hindu-Muslim harmony, like Mahatma Kabir of North India. Apart from this, he also attracted people’s attention due to the rhythms of the folk language and the rhythms of rural music adopted in his expression. Thus, after attaining the siddhi of spiritual attainment, there is a tree that he used to sit near his house to preach the Dharma to those who came among him and is still worshiped as Bodhapith.
Sharifa knew not only Kannada but also Urdu and Marathi languages.Sri Siddaramaiah of Hiremath, who lived in Shishunala, was well versed in Sharan literature. Shishunala Sharief Saheb sold his 2-20 acre farm and house in Shishuvina village for 200 rupees in August 1888 and became debt free. Sharif composed poems in many genres. His poetry is diverse. He sang Tattupadas. He warned the people by telling the weather forecast. He sang hymns and preached. Narrated history through Holi songs. Create the words Mangalrati—Say Mangala to the people and God. Shishunala Sharief Saheb chose the daily events of life as the material and described the ways of spiritual progress.

Lived for 70 years giving such a divine message (1889 luly 3) telling everyone, singing Bidateni Deha Bidateni, Videha got Kaivalya and became one with Shishunaladheesh. May his divine message be a beacon for all of us. After the death of Sharif, who lived a full life, his funeral was performed in the presence of Hindu and Muslim devotees.
