Gange Bhavi is located at a distance of 02 km from Ettinahalli village in Haveri district of Karnataka state. It is about 336 km from Bangalore.
In the Hindu legend Mahabharata, in which the Ganges descends from heaven to earth, the turbulent waters inundate sage Jahnu’s hermitage and disrupt his penance. The enraged sage stopped her journey by drinking Ganga water. The worried deities pray to Jahnu and request her to release Ganga so that her purpose of coming to earth can be fulfilled. It is said that sage Janu once came to this place and wanted water for meditation. The sage called the Ganges to give him water. Ganga came to this place from Kashi. The larger of the two continuously flowing pools is said to be the water of the Ganges. The region is called Dakshina Kashi because the Ganga flows here.
