Manjarabad Fort is located on a small hillock in the town of Dhonigal in Hassan district of Karnataka state. Manjarabad Fort was built by Tipu Sultan between 1785-1792. The fort is built of stone and brick in two stages. In the first phase a wall about 12 feet high is made of stone, while in the second phase it is made of brick. The first phase is said to have been built by Palegara of Aigoor, Sakaleshpur taluk, and later renovated by Tippusultan. This fort was used in the Anglo-Mysore war. After the fall of Srirangapatna, the British captured this fort and destroyed some parts of it.
One has to climb about 250 steps to reach Manjarabad Fort. Situated at a height of about 3420 feet above sea level, the fort is built in an eight-pointed star shape on an area of about 05 acres and is built in the Islamic Vastu style.
