Sri Lakshminarasimha Temple at Javagal is a mid-13th century Hindu temple with Hoysala architecture. This temple is located in Hassan district of Karnataka state. Narasimha, one of the Dashavatars, is the main deity of this temple. It was built in 1250 AD by King Vira Someswara of the Hoysala Empire.
This temple is about 213.1 km from Bangalore and 41.7 km from Hassan railway station. It is located at Javagal, about 20 km from the famous Halebidu temple and 40 km from Hassan town.
This temple is a tripartite temple consisting of three shrines. Of these, the central temple has a shikhara and a sukhanasi. All the three temples are of equal size, square in plan and connected to each other by a single covered hall (mantapa). There is an open porch in front of the covered hall. The side shrines are directly connected to the hall. A corridor connects the sanctum sanctorum of the central temple to the hall. The side temples are sited without pinnacles. The bottom of all shrines has five projections on each side.
The outer walls of the mandirs and the decorative design of the mandapa are built in the “New Style”. Two enclosures extend around the temple complex, in the center of which are beautifully decorated gopurams on square pillars. The wall below the second enclosure is decorated with relief panels with sculptures of Hindu deities and their attendants.
