Nageshwara and Govindeshwara temples in Koravangala are twin temples. This temple is a Hindu temple located in Araseikere in Hassan district of Karnataka state.
This temple is about 235.1 km from Bangalore. It is about 11.8 km from Hassan city and 12 km from Hassan railway station.
Nageshwara Temple
Nageshwar temple is small in size though it is ornate. And more simple than the Bhujeshwara temple. This temple was built by Nakeemaiah during the reign of Hoysala ruler Narasimha I. The temple has garbhagriha, tarada sukhanasi, navaranga and mukhamantava. The navaranga has a square jalandra and 24 hour pillars. The navaranga has a fine doorway with a central sculpture of Madhya Nataraja in the vithana (ceiling) of the navaranga surrounded by sculptures of musicians. The ceiling of the porch has magnificent carvings. The outer walls showing one or two semi-columns are surmounted by towers. There is an inscription mentioning this temple.
Govindeshwara Temple
The Govindeshwara Temple, built around 1160 CE by Govindayya, the minister of the Hoysala king Narasimha, consists of a sanctum (garbhagriha), an antechamber (sukhanasi), and a hall (navaranga). This temple has entrances on both the northern and southern sides, with access to the navaranga through the main entrance hall (mukhamantapa).
The Govindeshwara Temple features a collapsed dome with supporting ribs in an octagonal shape. The ornate exterior walls have towers (gopuras) designed on one or two half-pillars. In the entrance hall (mukhamantapa), built in 1180 CE, you can see a decorated ceiling surrounding the figure of Mahishamardini with representations of the eight guardian deities (Ashtadikpalakas). There are three inscriptions referencing this temple within the temple itself.
