Shri Kalleshwara Swamy Mandir Baagali is located outside Bagali village in Davangere district. The temple complex has a well maintained green environment. The temple exhibits the architectural style of the ancient Chalukya period dating back to the 10th century.
The temple is located at a distance of 9 km from the town of Harpanahalli, which is about 52 km from Davangere.
The temple complex contains intricately carved statues of Lord Ugra Narasimha and magnificent sculptures adorning the outer walls. Tourists can also visit the nearby Panchalinga temples, which showcase the rich historical and cultural heritage.
The Bagaliu main temple is an L-shaped structure. The temple has two sanctums. There are four or five small temples and kalyanis around it. Bagali is a peaceful place to relax in the cool shade, Bagali was an important agrahara from the time of the medieval Hoysalas and the Western Chalukyas of Kalyana after Vijayanagara.
The Kalleshwar temple was built during the Western Chalukya reign by King Ahavamalla and Duggimayya in 987 AD. According to the inscription the main deity is called Kalidevi. The east facing temple is built near the huge Kalyani embankment to its north. The temple consists of a garbhagriha, antarala, a mahamantapa with entrances to the south and east, a huge open sabhamantapa, a sun shrine with a porch built some distance from the main entrance. Separate shrines of Kalideva and Narasimha have been built to the north of the main temple hall in an east-west direction.
The hall has fifty-four decorated pillars, and a very decorative ceiling resting on twenty-four pillars. Eight satellites are built around the main temple. The Mahamantapa of the temple houses the finest sculptures of the Chalukya style and includes Shiva, Umamaheswara, Ganesha, Karthikeya, Surya, Anantashayana, Saraswati and Mahishamardini.
