About Kallathigiri Falls
The site of Kallattigiri falls is, according to legend, the pilgrimage site of the holy saint Agastya, who happened to find the falls during his wanderings and stayed here for a few months.
The waterfall also houses the Veerabhadreshwar temple built during the Vijayanagara period. This is evidenced by the entrance to the temple characterized by the formation of three elephants, elephants being a distinctive feature of Vijayanagara architecture. The water of this waterfall is considered sacred by the locals and is said to cure several diseases. A three-day annual fair is held here every year in honor of Lord Veerabhadra. Water drips from the rocks above, allowing people to bathe beneath it. This waterfall is located at the headwaters of Sharavati River. Kallattigiri Falls also has a poignant religious significance. It has a Veerabhadra temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
