Lalbagh Botanical Garden

Lalbagh Botanical Garden or Lalbagh, is an international botanical garden in Bangalore with a history of 200 years. It has been introduced and propagated by several ornamental plants and plants of economic value, medicinal plants. Spread over an area of ​​240 acres, the park attracts tourists.

It is located in the heart of Bangalore, just 04 km from the city. There are four gates numbered 4 in Lalbagh. It is open daily from 06 am to 07 pm. Entry is free during morning and evening hours (6 to 9 AM and 6 to 7 PM). Much of the park has been converted into walking paths and lawns.

It serves as a public park and recreational space for social events, botanical artwork and plant conservation. It has more than a thousand species of plants with thousands of trees over a hundred years old.

Lalbagh Botanical Garden

A central glass house was built in 1890 in this scenic park and is used for flower shows. The Lalbagh Glass House hosts two flower shows a year on Republic Day (26 January) and Independence (15 August). Renowned as a park as well as a green space, Lalbagh is home to several wild species of birds and wildlife. The garden has a lake next to a large rock on which a watch tower was built during the reign of Kempegowda from the top of which a view of Bangalore can be seen.

But Lal means “beloved” bog. Red was mentioned because of its original floral composition. Importation of trees and plants from several countries increased agricultural and horticultural wealth. It has a large collection of rare plants of the subcontinent and in the catalogue, several economic and ornamental plants including cinchona, coffee, tea, macadamia nuts, hickory, pecan, rhododendrons, camellias and bougainvillea.

Among the thousands of trees are the baobab from Africa, Brownia rosea from the Caribbean and Catha edulis from Yemen. The zoo and aviary were established in the 1860s.

Mango and jackfruit fairs are also held in Lalbagh. A flower clock is installed near the main entrance. It is embedded in a colorful flower bed. This garden is artistically designed.

Lawns, flower beds, lotus ponds and fountains. Most trees that are centuries old are labeled for easy identification. Lalbagh rock, one of the oldest ancient structures, is another attraction that attracts crowds. An artificial waterfall has been started on the edge of the lake. Lalbagh Lake is the best place for bird watching.
