Dodda Aalada Mara

Dodda Aalada Mara (Big Banyan Tree) is a giant 400 year old giant banyan tree located in Ketohalli/Ramohalli, Bangalore, Karnataka, a famous tourist spot. It is 95 feet high and has a large circumference of more than 3 acres and 250 meters. Natural attractions are among the must-see places in Bangalore.

Dodda Aalada Mara is 25 km from Bangalore City Railway Junction and Bus Stand and 36 km from Ramanagara.

The best time to visit is from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The main trunk of the tree dies of natural causes around the late 2000s, after the old roots are shed the buttress roots grow above ground, supported by thousands of aerial buttress roots that emerge from the tree. So these roots give the impression that they are the roots of a tree. A large banyan tree has been designated as a heritage tree.

The tree has a circumference of 820 feet, and has 1,359 buttress roots, of which 811 touch the ground and 548 hang 10-15 feet above the ground. Each root grows from 7 inches to 3 feet in circumference.

Seating arrangements are placed around the tree to savor and enjoy the beauty of the big banyan tree. Morning and evening walks are some of the common activities appreciated here.

At the center of the tree is a shrine where devotees can pray peacefully. All in all, the big banyan tree has been a natural mystery for over 4 centuries.
