The birthplace of Tipu Sultan, also known as the Tiger of Mysore, is near Devanahalli fort. Tipu Sultan was born in 1751 at Devanahalli. Tipu Sultan’s Birthplace is very close to the Devanahalli Fort, surrounded by just a small pillared enclosure with a stone plaque declaring it as the birthplace of Tipu Sultan. The area around the enclosure is called Khas Bagh.
The birthplace of Tipu Sultan is 36 kilometers from Bangalore and is in the heart of the Devanahalli city.
A monument with a small plaque is built 150 m south-west outside the fort, about six feet high with a four-pillared enclosure and a square top and canopies. It is a stone built area. It has a dry stone pond, banana, tamarind and mango plantations nearby. Outside the fort and the birthplace of Tipu Sultan, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has declared them as Protected Monuments (National Heritage).
