Shivagange is a Hindu pilgrimage center with the mountain outline as a bull from the east, Ganesha from the west, serpent from the north and Shivlinga from the south. Shivagange is a 1,368 meter high mountain peak and Hindu pilgrimage center near Dobbaspete in Bangalore Rural District, Karnataka.
Shivagange is 25 km from Tumkur town and 54 km from Bangalore. Located 07 km from near Dobbashpet, Shivagange is a holy hill at 4,559 feet above sea level.
Shivagange is known as Dakshina Kashi due to the presence of many temples that add divinity to this place. Temples here include Patalgange, Sri Honnadevi Temple, Nandi Statue, Ukkakal Theertha and Gangadhareshwar Temple.
Gangadhareshwar temple opens at 7.30 am. You have to climb 150 steps from the bottom of the hill to reach this temple. Sankranti is celebrated in Shivagange with a month-long cattle fair and festivals associated with hill temples dedicated to Gangadhareshwar, God Honnadevi and Veerabhadraswamy.
Sri Honnammadevi temple is inside the cave. Sri Gavi Gangadhar Temple is also inside the cave. Gavi means cave, Gangadhareshwar means Parameshwar with Ganga at the top. The wedding of Sri Gangadhareshwar and Sri Honnammadevi (Parvati) is performed on the Sankranti festival every January. At that time the holy water of the Ganges comes from the rock on the top of the hill which is used for the dhare ceremony of the marriage ceremony.
