Makalidurga

Makalidurga Hill is located near Doddaballapur in Bangalore Rural District of Karnataka State. The hill stands above the rest of the world at a height of 4430 feet and has a fort on its summit. Makali Malleswara Temple at the top surrounded by the fort walls is the main highlight of the trek. The ancient temple houses idols of Shiva and Nandi and still attracts devotees from nearby villages.

Makalidurga is 58 km from Bangalore, 07 km from Doddaballapur and 05 km from Ghati Subrahmanya. away and Makalidurga is 3.2 km from Makalidurga (MKL) railway station.

The trek to Makalidurga is moderately difficult. It consists of well-marked trails with some rocky and steep sections. A basic level of fitness is recommended.

How To Reach Makalidurga

The trek to Makalidurga is 3.2 km one way from the railway station. From Makalidurga railway station 2.2 km to Muthurayaswamy temple and then trek 01 km from Muthurayaswamy temple to rest point. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach the peak from the starting point. And it takes about one and a half to two hours to get down.

If you are approaching the parking lot by road, from State Highway 09 you will see a big signboard of Karnataka Forest Department on your left and take a left turn on Board Turt Track.

Drive about 900 meters where you will see an open space. This is a parking place. Park your vehicles there and hop over the railway tracks to the other side of the trail signposted by the Karnataka Forest Department.

At a distance of about 100 meters you will find the Muthurayaswamy temple on your right. From here you have to trek 01 km. Follow the path straight ahead, the trail to your left leads to Gundamagere Lake and to your right a slightly higher trail leads to Makalidurga. Take the trail on your right.

The path to the top of the hill is well marked with arrows on the rocks. Follow them to stay on the right track.
