Devanahalli Fort

Devanahalli Fort is a historic fort located in Devanahalli, Bangalore Rural District Karnataka State. During Vijayanagara rule, this fort was built by Malla Byregowda in AD. In 1501 he built an early mud fort with the consent of Devaraya at Devanadodi, the earlier name of Devanahalli.

Devanahalli Fort is 36 kilometers from Bangalore and is in the heart of Devanahalli city.

The history of Devanahalli Fort dates back to the 15th century, Devanahalli was a part of Gangavadi and was later ruled by Rashtrakutas, Nandas, Pallavas, Cholas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagara kings. During Vijayanagara rule, Malla Byregowda in AD. In 1501 he built an initial mud fort with Devarayana’s consent at Devanadodi, the former name of Devanahalli. In 1749 AD, the fort was handed over to Mysore lords under the command of Nanja Raja. It was conquered many times by the Marathas and later came under the control of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. The fort was finally captured by the British in 1791 under Lord Cornwallis during the Mysore War.

The Devanahalli Fort is spread over an area of ​​20 acres. The fort is roughly oval in shape and is built of huge boulders, with 12 semi-circular bastions at intervals. There is a wide area towards the interior of the fort. The fort has entrances on the east and west decorated with carved plasterwork.
