Markonahalli Dam

Markonahalli Dam is located in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur district of Karnataka state. The dam is built across the river Shinsha and was built in 1942 by Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, King of Mysore under the guidance of his Diwan, Sir M Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

Markonahalli Dam is 95 kilometers from Bangalore and 64 kilometers from Tumkur city. It is 25 kilometers from Kunigal Taluk. Kunigal railway station is the nearest railway station to this dam, at a distance of 22 km. It is just 12 km from Yediyur.

The reservoir has a catchment area of ​​about 4103 km and is approximately 73,157 meters above sea level and the reservoir has a storage capacity of 38 million cubic meters.
