Kaggaladu Bird Sanctuary is located in village Kaggaladu, Sira Taluk, Tumkur District, Karnataka State. As painted storks and gray herons migrate and breed in the trees in this village, this area has been recognized as a bird sanctuary since 1999 and this bird sanctuary is called Kaggaladu Bird Sanctuary.
Kaggaladu Bird Sanctuary is 131 km from Bangalore and 64 km from Tumkur and 10 km from Sira.
Kaggaladu is said to be the second largest colored stork sanctuary in South India, after Kokkare belluru Bird Sanctuary in Mandya district. The birds usually stay at the aviary for about six months, arriving in February in large groups for the nesting season. By the end of August, the migratory birds depart.
In 1999, the bird sanctuary here was introduced to the outside world by the Wildlife Aware Nature Club (WANC), a non-governmental organisation, Tumkur. This bird sanctuary is a tourist destination for bird lovers.
