Hulikere Tunnel

Hulikere tunnel is a secret unknown tunnel in Mandya, Karnataka state. Hulikere Tunnel is part of Visvesvaraya Canal from KRS Dam. Hulikere tunnel is one of Visvesvaraya’s engineering marvels. After the construction of KRS dam, this tunnel was built to obstruct the water supply to Hulikere village.

Hulikere tunnel is about 116 km from Bangalore. It is about 16 km from Mandya city. And it is 20 km away from Srirangapatna. Yaliyur Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Hulikere.

When released here the Cauvery water flows in full flow and covers the entire 20 feet high tunnel. The Hulikere tunnel has ensured irrigation water for agriculture to Hulikere, Kalenahalli and surrounding villages for many years. The tunnel is part of Visveshwarya Canal under Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) Kaveri Irrigation Corporation Limited (CNNL). Hulikere tunnel carries Cauvery water. Hulikere tunnel is the longest underground Cauvery tunnel or Cauvery tunnel. Hulikere Tunnel is a lesser known hidden treasure of Mandya.

M. Visveswaraiah Hulikere tunnel is in use and if planning to enter the tunnel, it is better to check with locals to ensure that it is not a day when KRS releases water.
