Akka Tangi Kola is a sacred and mythological pond located in Pandavapur Taluk of Mandya District of Karnataka State. Akka Thangi Pond (Kola) is one of the special places after Cheluvanarayan Swamy Temple in Melukote. It is a magnificent twin pond.

Akka Thangi Kola is about 137 km from Bangalore. It is about 39 km from Mandya city and 47 km from Mysore city. It is 88 km from Hassan. Pandavapur is the nearest railway station which is only 29 km away.

Akka Tangi pond is located near Rayagopuram. There is also a small temple. These beautiful ponds must be hundreds of years old. These ponds are beautifully constructed with steps and ledges which are very beautiful to look at. There are 30-40 steps here. The waters of the two ponds here are different. According to legend, a Chola king named Cheluvarasa lived here 1000 years ago. He has two wives, who are also sisters. One day, the king gave some money to both his wives and did something that the world would appreciate. Both the elder and younger sisters started building a pond, called Jakkanachari. Akka did not treat the workers well, God’s service was not done properly. So God got angry. The water in the pond built by my sister was black. But the younger sister worshiped the Lord with sraddha-bhakti and built the pond and took good care of the workers. Pond water is like fresh water. The water of that pond is used for theertha and puja. After that, when the older sister repented and begged God to use the water from her pond to wash the cloths related to the temple, it seems that her sin would be atoned for. Thus the water of Akka’s lake is used for washing clothes.
