Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the 21 wildlife sanctuaries in Karnataka. This sanctuary is located in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district. It is home to rare and endangered bird species. Kadamakal reserve forest is a part of the sanctuary. This sanctuary is located at a distance of 58 km from Madikeri or Coorg.
Pushpagiri (Kumara Parvata) is its highest peak. The sanctuary is bordered by the Bisley Reserve Forest to the north and the Kukke Subrahmanya Forest range to the west. Mandalapatti (town of Mugilu) peak, Kote hill and Makkalgudi hills are the mountains in the sanctuary. Mallalli Falls and Kote Abbey Falls (Mukkodlu Falls) are located inside the sanctuary. Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the World Heritage Sites.
Also known as Mandalapatti “Mugilu Pete”, this view point is one of the tourist hotspots in Kodagu. The peak is 1250 meters above MSL. Pushpagiri Sanctuary Along with mind-blowing peaks, a place with abundant variety of lush greenery and thick trees and fauna, Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is located in North Coorg and has rare species of flora along with bird species only in this region. As Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is located in dense forest, it is covered with evergreen trees and small herbs ranging from orchids to wildflowers. This reserve forest provides shelter to various exotic animals.
Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is open for its visitors daily from 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM. For those planning to stay overnight you can camp somewhere near the sanctuary so that you can return in the morning before sunrise. There is an entry fee per person at the check post. Additional charges apply for camping.
