Clock Tower Virajapete 

Virajpet Clock Tower is a clock tower in Virajpet town in Kodagu district of Karnataka state. The foundation stone of the tower was laid on 5 February 1914 by the then Chief Commissioner of Coorg, Sir Hugh Daly, to commemorate the coronation of George V at the Delhi Durbar in 1911. After 11 months of construction work, it was inaugurated in January 1915 by the then District Magistrate R. K. Ellis. To mark its centenary, the Karnataka Postal Circle released a collection of stamps on 16 January 2015.

At that time Mukkatira Ayyappa family of Koda who was living in Devanageri village near Virajpet donated a piece of land to Virajpet town municipality for construction of clock tower.

The clock tower is about 248 km from Bangalore and 106 km from Mysore. 32 km from Madikeri city and the clock tower in the middle of Virajpet city is about 163 km from Mangalore.

Virajpet is the taluk headquarters at a distance of 32 km from Madikeri. The hill town is well connected by road to coastal Kerala towns like Kannur and Tellicherry. Virajpet was built in 1792 A.D by King of Kodagu, Dodda Veerarajendra, where he met British Governor Robert Abercrombie in 1791.

Veerarajendra the great invited artisans and traders from neighboring states to settle in the town. Even today, some street names include Telugu Street, Bengali Street and Jain Street.
