Abbey Falls (also known as Abbey Falls) is a popular waterfall in Kodagu district. The river Kaveri cascades over vast cliffs from a height of more than 70 feet into a deep gorge, offering a spectacular view. Although entering the water is not suitable for bathing, the newly constructed hanging bridge offers a spectacular view of the falls.
Abbey Falls 26 km from Madikeri Abbey Falls is about 270 km from Bangalore, 130 km from Mysore and about 160 km from Mangalore.
The walk from the main entrance to the falls has about 200 steps and takes you through exotic coffee, cardamom, pepper and other spice plantations. Entrance to Abbey Falls is open from 9am to 5pm. Access to Abbey Falls is through private coffee plantations.
Abbey Falls is a combination of many small streams that join together and fall into a pool of flowing water and merge into the Cauvery River. The scenic splendor of Abbey Falls increases manifold in monsoon. During monsoon, the water flow thickens with a loud roar.
After the departure of the British, the land came under the Government of India but the area around the Abbey Falls was covered with forest. Neravanda B. Nanaiah bought the land from the government and built plantations around the place, since then the area has been a private property. It comes down rocky slopes and enters these huge coffee plantations and spice estates.
