Chaubara Clock Tower is located in Bidar district of Karnataka state. The tower dates back to its construction by Ahmad Shah Wali in the pre-Islamic era and was modified by his successors.
The tower is 2 km from Bidar Railway Station and 4 km from Bidar Main Bus Stand. Chaubara Gopuram is located in the center of the city and is a lot of people attraction and a lot of use.
Bara in Persian means fortified ergo, hence the name Chaubara for this tower. The imposing Chaubara Tower is built at the junction of two major roads of the city. Chaubara is an old circular clock tower and one of the most important monuments in the heart of Bidar town.
The Chaubara tower is undoubtedly colossal and 71 feet high and 16 feet 9 inches in circumference is cylindrical in shape. The entire tower is built of black stone laid in lime and this tower was the watch fort of Bidar in earlier days. The style of this tower is purely Islamic and is believed to be a replica of the tower in the Sammara Mosque. The view from the top of this tower is very beautiful and ecstatic. A strong foundation. It is a resting place for pedestrians here. The pinnacle of the tower is adorned with large clocks on four sides. An antique steel staircase spirals inside the tower and stands in the open space of the terrace. Sunlight streams through some holes in the wall and illuminates the entire interior space of the tower.
